Logo Makers - GT #29
20+ apps, tools and resources (mostly free)- to create edit, convert or revive your personal / brand logo.
Hello my friend, glad to have you for this new edition of Good Tools.
Thanks to your feedback and votes in the last newsletter poll, the focus of this issue is on apps and tools that allow you to create a logo.
If your goal is to save money and time, these apps can produce professional-looking logo designs in very little time and ready to be used online, on physical packaging and merchandise.
When you pair one of these web apps with someone who has good design and visual communication experience, the results can be quite good. Not as good and original as a human professional logo designer could do, but much cheaper and requiring a fraction fo the time a human designer would need.
That’s why in the end these tools are unbeatable to create acceptable logos under $100 and in very little time but they can’t compare with the finesse, attention, empathy and design skill that a human designer could provide.
As a designer, when I need to create a logo for a client, I don’t use these tools.
Nor I am tempted to. These logo-builders take away all of the fun a designer has in figuring out a visual solution to a communication problem and - for now - do not seem to produce results that are outstandingly better than what an experienced designer can do.
It is also true, that given the very low quality and design ignorance of most graphic designers today (they have come to believe that is the tools they know how to use that make them designers), I would happily use an automated logo builder in place of paying money to such unskilled amateurs.
In my case, when I need a logo, I imagine what I want in my mind and then I use all of the tools and icon libraries in the world to help me execute it, style it and customize it to my needs.
May this collection of (mostly free) tools be of use to you.

Crowdsourced Logo Design
In the past I have used a lot these kind of services, which basically allow you to create a design contest for a logo and to receive hundreds of alternative design proposals from graphic designers wanting to get your $ bounty.
I don’t know how much they have improved in the last few years, but I do see that some have gone out of business and that AI and automated solutions like the ones reviewed in this issue are playing a big role in these changes.
AI Image Generators
Most classic mainstream AI LLMs do not seem to have at this time (April 2025) the ability, the taste and tech skills to produce quality logos according to my specifications.
These include Google Gemini, Claude, Grok, Mistral, Deepseek and ChatGPT (though it produced the best results).
On the other hand, I would consider and always keep at hand this dedicated AI image generation engine which I have been using extensively with good results. It is the only one I would recommend for logo design, among all of the AI image generation tools available today.
Ideogram.ai
